Qasim set to become chief justice of LHC

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Monday recommended the elevation of senior puisne judge Justice Mohammad Qasim Khan as the next chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed, the meeting was attended by Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Maqbool Baqar in addition to other members of the commission.

When elevated, Justice Qasim Khan will replace CJ of LHC Mamoon Rashid Sheikh who will reach superannuation on March 18, 2020.

Justice Qasim Khan will serve as the chief justice of the high court until July 5, 2021.

After the decision, recommendations of the JCP will then be taken up by an eight-member bi-partisan parliamentary committee of the parliament.
