Karachi transport
PAKISTAN’S largest city Karachi is among the world’s top 10 megapolis. It is therefore unfortunate that the people of this city have to use a pathetic public transport system.
The city government is not running a public bus system, and the few buses that are there belong to entrepreneurs. The less said about these vehicles the better. The city has no mass transit system. The people have to use rickshaws or wait for long for the few buses that run. This is why the poor have to spend a large portion of their income on commuting to and from work.
Since a cheap and efficient public transport is an expensive proposition, it needs the joint efforts of the federal and provincial governments and the city administration to provide Karachi with a cheap and modern public transport system.
As a resident, with no transport of my own I have to use overcrowded, rickety minibuses and expensive rickshaws. I have been suffering in silence for years but my patience has worn thin.
This is a request to the federal and Sindh government and the city authorities to ensure a cheap hassle-free public transport system for Karachi.
