Lawmakers visit IMC

KARACHI: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production has shown concerns over rising automobile prices coupled with quality of cars compared to imported vehicles.

The lawmakers made these observations during their visit to Indus Motor Company (IMC) on Thursday.

IMC Chief Executive Ali Asghar Jamali informed the committee members, led by chairman Sajid Hussain Turi, that vehicle prices had risen sharply owing to additional customs duty of 7pc on import of parts and accessories and imposition of federal excise duty of 2.5-7.5pc on various engine power and additional sales tax of 3pc.

The committee head assured the IMC chief of taking up the matter of high taxes and duties on vehicles with the government.
