Shoaib upsets Agha to reach quarters at ITF Juniors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Mohammad Shoaib went through to the Dilawar Abbas Memorial ITF Pakistan Junior Tennis Championship quarter-finals after a convincing victory against Raahim Agha of Great Britain here at the PTF Complex on Tuesday.

Shoaib, a promising local prospect who recently won another ITF Juniors event, battled past Agha to win 6-1, 6-2.

On the other hand, Ahmed Kamil, who is regarded as one of the best local junior players as well, could not live up to the expectations. He was outclassed by Turkey’s unseeded Kerem Ozlale 6-1, 6-2 in a one-sided affair.

Kerem won the first set 6-1 by breaking Kamil’s second and fourth game while he ensured victory in the second when he broke Kamil’s first, third and seventh game.

Unseeded Birtan Duran of Turkey taming seventh seed Australian Qwyn Quittner was also an upset. Duran’s exceptional perfection and flawless display saw him surprise his Australian opponent.
