Teenage boy electrocuted to death

RAWALPINDI: A teenage boy died of electric shock while attempting to catch a kite stuck in electric wires in Sadiqabad on Sunday night.

Abdullah, 12, was flying a kite that got entangled in electric wires.The victim was shifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Punjab government imposed a ban on kite flying across the province and had directed police to take legal action against those violating the ban.

A police spokesman said that more than 700 people had been arrested by police during the last three days involved in kite flying and selling in Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, two suspected auto-thieves were injured during an encounter with police while trying to steal a parked car in the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station on Sunday night.

Police raids were underway to arrest two accomplices of the auto-thieve gang who managed to escape during the encounter.

Police said following information that some people were replacing registration plates of a car at Nogaza Road Saddar, a police party lead by an assistant sub-inspector reached the scene.

The accused tried to escape and opened fire at the police party, they added.

Two of the accused were injured while two others managed to escape, they said, adding that the injured identified as Tariq Khan and Mohammad Yasir.

The injured were shifted to the hospital amid tight security.
