Mardan villagers protest lockdown

MARDAN: Residents of Manga village here on Saturday protested against the district administration for not providing them necessary supplies since their locality was locked down three days ago after a local fell victim to coronavirus.

The villagers, mostly daily wagers and farmers, broke the lockdown of their area and took to the streets against the poor arrangements and non-availability of food and other commodities.

However, a mini truck loaded with flour, sugar, ghee and other food items was sent to the area, but the residents alleged that the officials sold the commodities to them.

The dwellers complained that most of them were poor and were unable to buy food items as they were not allowed to go on work owing to continuous lockdown of the area after the death caused by the virus.

Meanwhile, officials claimed that they had provided food items free of cost to the family of the slain person on the first day of his death.

TWO YOUTHS KILLED: One youth was killed and another injured in a road accident on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 officials said two motorcycles collided in Shergar area, killing Subhanuddin on the spot and injuring Yardad.

Yardad told police that the deceased was his cousin and they were the students of the University of Peshawar. He said they were going to their hometown in Kohistan.

The rescue officials shifted the inured and the body to Mardan Medical Complex.
