QAU students launch drive to provide food items to labourers

ISLAMABAD: Former and present students of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) have launched a campaign to provide essential food items to daily-wage labourers, contributing in government’s efforts to eradicate Covid-19.

According to sources from the university, QAU students provided essential food items to daily-wage labourers sitting on footpaths in different areas of the city.

Talking to this agency, they said the initiative had been taken to help labourers who were unable to work because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Labourers were being provided with cooked vegetables and rice along with hand sanitisers and Dettol soaps for their safety. Students also informed them about precautionary measures they should take.

According to a student, Tahir, the quantity of food will be doubled from tomorrow so labourers could feed their children as well.He said labourers will also be briefed about how to practice social distancing and how it will keep them safe from Covid-19.

Students from other universities should play their part in helping needy people because they are citizens of this country too, he added.

The students urged communities, especially the youth, to spread messages via WhatsApp about the whereabouts of daily-wage workers so they could be approached and provided food.
