CNG sector seeks cut in taxes

RAWALPINDI: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha on Tuesday said in the wake of coronavirus, sales of CNG had come to a halt, making it difficult for the CNG operators to pay rent and salaries to the staff.

In a statement, he said the government should reduce taxes on the CNG sector and announce a bailout package so that the sector which had attracted heavy investments could survive.

He asked the government to promote imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as, according to him, it had become cheaper in the international market.

He said the government should waive customs duty on LNG while putting a limit on local production.

“Such a decision will help save precious and scarce resources of gas which can be used in case the LNG price jumps in the international market,” he added.

Ghiyas Paracha said that increased import of LNG will help reduce the price of gas without spending a hefty amount on subsidies.
