Supermarket sealed for ignoring safety steps

KARACHI: Commissioner of Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani on Sunday ordered the closure of a supermarket for not taking precautionary measures to prevent spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

He took this decision during his visit to different areas of the city to assess the implementation of the lockdown measures announced by the provincial government to control the contagion.

According to an official statement, the commissioner visited shops and stores to monitor the precautionary measures being taken there. During his visit, Mr Shallwani saw that Imtiaz Supermarket in the Korangi area was not implementing the measures prescribed by the government to prevent spread of the virus. Therefore, under directions of the commissioner, the supermarket was sealed.

He warned that all stores and shops that did not maintained one metre distance among their customers would be sealed.
