PML makes two major changes in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD, Aug 30: Two major changes have been made by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi for the candidatures of towns and city district nazim and naib nazim nominees.

The younger brother of a provincial minister has been named for the top slot of Madina Town.

Reports said the chief minister after a meeting with the party office-holders and parliamentarians belonging to Faisalabad finalized the name of Chaudhry Ali Akhtar Khan, brother of Punjab Minister for Communication and Works Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan, also the PML provincial secretary-general, for Madina Town nazim position.

Previously, the seat was given to former MNA Mian Amjad Yaseen.

Ali Akhtar was elected councillor of the defunct municipal corporation in the local elections of 1987 and has a good vote bank in localities falling in the town.

The second change has been made for the candidate of city district naib nazim as newcomer Ahmad Raza Bhalli has been selected for this post by the ruling party. Mr Bhalli had contested the previous local polls for the seat of city tehsil nazim, but lost.

His family enjoys good relations and contacts with Tariq Aziz, secretary to president, and some army generals.

A local yarn merchant, Imtiaz Rabbani Billu, who claims to have personal links with bureaucrats and police officials has also jumped for the slot of Jinnah Town nazim. He had arranged an open dinner meeting in lush green grounds of his area where he announced 500 jobs for the area people after his election.
