Ration distributed among transgender persons

ISLAMABAD: Minister of Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari assured government’s support to those in need.

Addressing participants of an event held by Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall to distribute ration among transgender persons, Dr Mazari said it was a legal duty to ensure rights of transgenders. “There are separate wards established for transgenders in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) hospital, should they need medical attention,” she said.

Ministry of Human Rights wrote letters to provinces one and a half year ago to establish separate wards for transgenders in public hospitals of provinces also, she said, adding Aisha Mughal, a transgender currently working with the ministry, was included in the official delegation and represented the case of Pakistan effectively in human rights council.

The ration was distributed among 50 transgenders during this event and 200 bags will be delivered at home addresses.
