Wheat bundles set on fire in Swabi

SWABI: Unidentified miscreants set to fire the harvested wheat crop of a poor farmer, reducing it to ashes in the small hours of Saturday, the police said.

Local residents said that when they came out of their houses for offering morning prayers in the local mosque they noticed that a big fire had engulfed the crop.

They rushed to the field for extinguishing the blaze, but it was so intense and reduced the entire harvest to ashes within a few minutes.

Riaz, the affected farmer, said that some unidentified persons had intentionally set fire to the wheat harvest.

The Tordher police registered an FIR against unidentified culprits and started further investigations.

Meanwhile, following reduction in the oil prices announced by the government, the filling station owners here have stopped sale of petrol and diesel and closed the stations.

The people demanded that the district administration and police take action against the filling station owners for shutting the outlets on their own.
