Three boys drown in two mini-dams in Chakwal

CHAKWAL: Three boys drowned in two separate incidents, Rescue 1122 said on Friday.

According to media coordinator of Rescue 1122 Khurram Manzoor, the emergency service received a call about the drowning of a boy in a mini-dam near Lohaisar village.

Rescue 1122 reached the spot and after an operation of 30 minutes retrieved the body. The deceased was identified as Nauman Mehmood, 22, a resident of Dhoke Jhakar. He had gone to take bath in the dam while grazing his cattle.

The second incident occurred near Thoha Mahram Khan village in tehsil Talagang.

According to a relative, Hamza 14, his cousin Nauman, 13, and Danish, 8, went for grazing their herd of goats and sheep.

They later decided to take bath in the dam as their elder brothers were busy in loading harvested wheat onto a tractor-trolley, Munsib, an uncle of the boys, told Dawn.

He said after a short while Danish returned to the elder men and told them that Hamza and Nauman had hid themselves in the water and were not coming out. Their elder brothers rushed to the scene and also called other villagers.

“We saw the body of Nauman floating in the water while Hamza’s was fished out after two hours,” Munsib said, adding Hamza was studying at a seminary while Nauman was a student of 8th grade.
