114 kanal state land allocated to DPS for new building

SAHIWAL: Around 114 kanal state land was allocated on 50-year lease to the Divisional Public School (DPS) and College by the Punjab Board of Revenue (BoR) for extension to the campus to accommodate the growing number of students.

The land is located at Chak 87/9-L, Sahiwal tehsil, and it has been allocated at the rate of Rs5,000 per acre per annum on the order of BoR Deputy Secretary (Colonies).

Sources told Dawn the move has been made with special efforts of a senior bureaucrat and a senior BoR member, Babar Hayat Tarar. The extension plan was conceived when he was working as Sahiwal commissioner.

The Divisional Public School and College works under a board of governors (BoG) led by the divisional commissioner but it is not a complete public sector entity.

A two-storey building for the college would be built by college’s own resources in the coming two years.

“The approval for construction plan of the building and financial resources will be done by the BoG,” the principal said.

The land allocation notification binds the college administration to start construction within six months and complete it within 18 months.
