SOPs issued for Youm-i-Ali majalis, Aitekaf in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Youm-i-Ali processions will not be taken out this year, but majalis at imambargahs have been allowed, as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent spread of Covid-19 in the capital.

Besides, Aitekaf will also not be observed at every mosque in the capital. It will only be allowed at mosques that can strictly implement SOPs regarding prevention of the virus.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Mohammad Hamza Shafqaat said that a meeting was held with a delegation of Shia ulema and representatives from Markazi Masjid-o-Imambargah Asna Ashri G-6 over Youm-i-Ali, which is observed on Ramazan 21. It has been agreed that the government order will be followed in letter and spirit, and no processions will be held in the capital this year, he added.

He said that only majalis will be held at imambargahs and will conclude before Iftar.

Furthermore, he said Aitekaf will not be allowed in small mosques, as SOPs cannot be implemented there.

“It will be allowed at mosques which have enough space to observe social distancing and where there are separate washrooms for people,” he said, adding details were discussed with ulema, who unanimously agreed that Aitekaf should not be observed in mosques where spread of the virus was possible.

An advisory was issued to all mosques in the capital, police stated, adding that a minimum number of people will be allowed to observe Aitekaf at mosques. Children and persons above 50 years will not be allowed in mosques for Aitekaf.

During Aitekaf, people have been asked to wear masks and use sanitisers and their temperature will be checked daily, they stated, adding social distancing will be observed and hujras have been set up at a distance of six feet.
