Rawalpindi residents face water shortage

RAWALPINDI: Though heavy rains have filled dams, residents of cantonment areas are facing water shortage due to the indifferent attitude of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB). Raja Mazhar, a resident of Afshan Colony, said the RCB has failed to provide water to the residents but was sending bills. He said the government should take up the matter seriously and resolve the issue.

Tariq Mehmood said during Ramazan the residents had to purchase water from private tankers. He said the requirement of water increased in the summer but the civic body was still rationing the commodity.

He said a tubewell was installed in the area but its operator never opened the supply and the machine remained locked.

When contacted, RCB spokesman Qaiser Mehmood said that the civic body would conduct surprise checking to ensure the presence of tubewell operators at their workplaces from Friday (today).

He said the RCB was also planning to streamline the supply system and from next month no water would be supplied to those who failed to pay their bills for the last one year.
