From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: Reunion ceremonies
ABBOTTABAD: The President, Gen A.M. Yahya, said here today [May 16] the purpose behind the reunion ceremonies was to maintain a link between the serving and old officers. He was addressing the senior serving officers of the Baluch Regiment at the reunion at the Regiment centre.
The President said that the retired personnel were provided an opportunity to revisit their regiment and see the new equipment and the new standards of training with their own eyes. When they went back home they might be able to persuade suitable young men to join the Army, thus helping it to get good human material, the President said.
Speaking on the relationship between a subordinate and his senior in the Army, the President said it should be based on the closeness of mind and the trust between them. He also referred to the distinctive feature of Army training which was a training of the mind in logical and clear thinking.
Attired in the summer ceremonial dress of the Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, the President was received by Lt-Gen Abdul Hamid Khan, Army Chief of Staff... Later on, the president met the next-of-kins of the Shuhada of the Regiment and the pensioners. — Agency
