From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: Bomb explosions

DACCA: Police have arrested three persons including one university student here in connection with the recent bombs in the city. They were produced before Sadar South Sub-Divisional Magistrate and their bail applications were rejected. The case will be heard on May 20. It was alleged that on May 5 last the accused went to Pakistan Council at Topkhana Road with two bottles and exploded Molotov bomb.

Khulna Police recovered 31 live bombs yesterday [May 16] hidden in a bush within Khulna Azam Khan College according to information received here this morning. The bombs were kept in two bags and a maid servant found them. She informed an inmate of her house who informed the Police. It may be mentioned here that 26 more live bombs were recovered from a house at old colony of Peoples’ Jute Mills at Khalishpur on Saturday last.

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Sialkot,] Rashtria Savek Sanghi goondas attacked a student procession taken out yesterday [May 16] in Srinagar to protest against the killing of Indian Muslims, according to reports reaching from across the cease-fire line here today. They stoned the procession and severely beat some of the students and the police remained a silent spectator when all this went on.
