Body due to reach Larkana for probe into issuance of domiciles to non-residents

LARKANA: A three-member body is scheduled to arrive here on Thursday (today) for probe into complaints about issuance of domicile certificates to non-residents of Sindh.

Qazi Shahid Pervez, senior member of the Board of Revenue Sindh, leads the committee constituted by the Sindh chief secretary a day before. Services, general administration and coordination department secretary Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo and Board of Revenue (PRC) deputy director Nazir Ahmed Qureshi would be its members.

Terms of reference of the committee are to inspect and scrutinise the record of domicile certificates issued in various districts of the province, says a notification.

It would also investigate the complaints and reports, identify the domicile certificates issued to the non-residents of the district, fix responsibility and give its recommendations for further action as per law and rules. The committee was also asked to give its initial report regarding the district highlighted in the complaints within seven days.

A handout issued by the information department on Wednesday quoted Larkana Commissioner Mohammad Saleem Raza Khuhro as saying that the committee would reach the deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday to initiate the probe.

The commissioner asked people to appear before the committee if they had any solid proof and evidence with them and get their statements recorded.

Social media carried certain reports on May 23 regarding the issuance of domiciles to non-residents of the district and province.

The same day Larkana Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Noman Siddique through information department’s handout declared that Larkana had an online system of domicile issuance. It is linked with Nadra’s VeriSys and all CNICs were verified before issuance.

An internal inquiry concluded that the news being circulated on social media is fake, the handout quoting the deputy commissioner said.

JSQM protest

In Khairpur, activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) staged a demonstration before local press club here on Wednesday in protest against issuance of illegal/fake domiciles of Sindh. Addressing the protest, JSQM local leaders Ayoub Lashari, Khurram Mahesar and Sajjad Shah said that there had been no end to the “anti-Sindh conspiracies”.

On one hand corruption was committed by issuing fake/illegal domiciles while on the other hand people of Sindh were deprived of employment, they stated.

They said JSQM would not tolerate any such anti-Sindh policies and defend Sindh and its people on all forums.

They demanded strict action and suspension of all officers and employees involved in the issuance of the illegal domiciles.

They threatened to launch a protest movement throughout Sindh if action was not taken against such practices.
