44,500 cases are pending before SC

KARACHI: Over 44,500 cases are pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan while the apex court disposed of more than 850 cases over the past one-and-a-half months.

According to the SC statistics, over 1,200 new cases had been filed with the Supreme Court from April 1 to May 15 and total pending cases stood at 44,658 on May 15.

During the first half of the current month, 562 new cases were filed and 366 cases were decided during the same period.

The principal seat of the apex court in Islamabad decided 154 cases between May 1 and May 15, the Lahore registry disposed of 141 cases and the Karachi registry decided 71 cases while no case was decided at the Peshawar and Quetta registries during this period.

Similarly, the principal seat of the apex court received 256 cases: 169 cases were filed at the Lahore registry, 82 at the Karachi registry, 32 cases were received at the Quetta registry and 23 cases were instituted at the Peshawar registry from May 1 to May 15.

The SC had decided 491 cases in the month of April while 685 new cases were instituted during the last month and the total pending cases stood at 44,017 on April 30.

In April, the principal seat had decided 319 cases, the Karachi registry disposed of 65 cases and 107 cases were decided at its Lahore registry while no case was decided at the Peshawar and Quetta registries during this period.

Likewise, the principal seat of the apex court received 257 cases last month, 287 cases were filed at the Lahore registry, 99 at the Karachi registry, 36 cases were instituted at the Peshawar registry, and six cases were received at the Quetta registry from April 1 to 30.
