Following SOPs equal responsibility of every citizen: Attock DC

TAXILA: The district administration has decided to strictly ensure the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP) to contain the spread of the coronavirus and directions have been issued to all the relevant authorities to remain in the field to enforce the precautionary measures, Attock Deputy Commissioner Ali Anan Qamar said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference at the deputy commissioner office, Mr Qamar said the implementation of SOPs was an equal responsibility of every individual, or the district administration will be compelled to take strict measures.

He said the government was concerned by the increase in Covid-19 cases in the district, and every citizen must act responsibly.

Mr Qamar urged the media to sensitise and inform the public about the danger of the coronavirus, to emphasise the importance of social distancing among the public and of implementing SOPs among the traders community.

“Local administrations have been directed to crack down on violators in all the towns and cities in the district to ensure maximum implementation and that violators are punished as per the law,” he said.

He added that only businesses that followed SOPs will be allowed to operate, as it has been made mandatory by the provincial government for people to wear masks. He said people should follow governmental SOPs and individuals and business entities that do not comply will face legal action.

Mr Qamar later held snap visited to various petrol stations to check the availability of petrol and its supply to customers. He told petrol station managements that hoarding and profiteering on this basic commodity would not be tolerated and those found guilty of doing so would be dealt with according to the law.

When asked about action taken against profiteering and overcharging, he said Rs4.7 million in fines had been imposed this context last month while markets were being visited regularly by price magistrates to ensure the official price list is enforced.
