NAWABSHAH: Breach inundates villages

NAWABSHAH, Sept 11: A numbers of houses in Aitbar Rind, Hameed Rind and Hakeem Rind villages came under water after a 60-foot wide breach occurred in the James minor, Nusrat irrigation division, some five kilometres away from Daur on early Sunday morning. Crops on over 50 acres were affected and villagers took shelter in nearby safe places.

The villagers informed the irrigation department at 2:30am about the breach but no officials reached at the spot till 5pm.

Daur TPO Nusrat Sheikh said the breach had occurred due to increase in pressure at the canal as Dholo and Abul Hassan branches were closed. He said he had been trying to contact the irrigation officials since morning but they were turning a deaf ear to his complaints.—BoC
