Iqbal’s statues installed in Sialkot

SIALKOT: The Sialkot Municipal Corporation has installed two statues of Allama Iqbal in the city to pay homage to the national poet and beautify his native city.

Chief Officer Faisal Shehzad said the project was supervised by DC Dr Nasir Mehmood Bashir.

He said the statues made of fiber glass were installed under the Clean and Green Programme launched by the government with the cooperation of local philanthropists.

One of the statues was installed at city’s congested Kotli Behram Chowk, while the other along Sialkot-Pasrur Road.

The DC said the main object of installing these statues was to pay tribute to Dr Iqbal.

He said under the Clean and Green Programme, the MC had also commissioned murals of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on different walls in the city.

Mr Shehzad said a” Horse Tower” at the China Chowk flyover and a clock tower Kutchery Chowk had also been built to beautify the city.

He said the MC had already launched as many as 18 different schemes for the beautification of the city at the cost of Rs30 million donated by local philanthropists and exporters.

He said a statue of Allama Iqbal would also be installed at the Iqbal Manzil.
