Prof Aurangzeb appointed KMC dean

PESHAWAR: Prof Mahmud Aurangzeb, a laparoscopic surgeon, has been appointed dean of the Khyber Medical College for a period of five years.

Currently working as chief executive officer of Postgraduate Medical Institute Peshawar since October 2018, he remained head of the department of surgery at Khyber Medical College and Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar from April 2013 to May 2017.

Being the pioneer of laparoscopic surgery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prof Aurangzeb is also is in-charge of surgical “A” ward at KTH, according to a press release.

His appointment was approved by the Board of Governors of KTH/KMC/Khyber College of Dentistry.

Prof Aurangzeb graduated from KMC in 1985 and did FRCS from Royal College of Surgeons, England, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, and Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

After completion of house job in KTH, he left for higher education to the United Kingdom where he joined Hammersmith Hospital London as senior house officer and also worked senior house officer in Edgeware General Hospital, Middlesex, and Royal Brompton Hospital, London. In 1991, he worked as registrar in the Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon.

He came back to KTH as senior registrar in 1993 and later became professor of surgery in 2013.

Prof Aurangzeb has a vast experience of general medicine, general surgery, accident and emergency, orthopaedic, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and urology. He received fellowship in laparoscopic surgery and is the member of International Society of Laparoscopic and Minimal Invasive Surgery.
