Bid foiled to smuggle medicines to Afghanistan

CHAGAI: The Levies personnel on Wednesday seized a huge quantity of medicines allegedly stored at an abandoned place during a raid.

Police said the medicines were to be smuggled to Afghanistan.

According to official sources, on a tip-off about the presence of medicines, a raid was conducted on Wednesday by the Quick Response Force under the command of Dalbandin Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Javed Domki at an Afghan refugee camp in Girdi Jangal area of Dalbandin.

The sources said the medicines included antibiotics, Leva floxacine injections, syrups, Panadol/Calpol, Nuberol tablets, Vitamin D tablets, Dexa methasone injections.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dalbandin police also confiscated a huge quantity of medicines stored in 60 packets and these medicines were also meant to be smuggled to Afghanistan.

Dalbandin Police Station House Officer Khalid Badeni said these medicines were loaded on a pick-up at Faisal Colony transport terminal and were supposed to be smuggled to Afghanistan, but timely action by police foiled the smuggling bid.

Young man shot dead

A driver was shot dead and his colleague suffered critical bullet injuries on Wednesday when their pick-up came under attack by robbers in Jaudar area near the Pak-Iran border at Mashkail area of Washuk district.

According to official sources, the robbers opened indiscriminate fire on their Zamyad (Iran-made vehicle usually used for smuggling of Iranian oil) when the vehicle was not stopped as signaled by robbers, causing death of Inayatullah and serious injuries to his friend Ikramullah.

Ikramullah was taken to a hospital.

Nushki Press Club

New office-bearers of Nushki Press Club have been elected unopposed. According to an announcement of the election committee, headed by senior journalist Haji Saeed Baloch, Mr Tayyab Yallanzai was elected as President while Zahoor Gul Jamaldini and Malik Adeel Mengal were elected as vice president and general secretary, of the club, respectively.
