Test cricketer Khalid Wazir passes away

KARACHI: Test cricketer Syed Khalid Wazir who toured England with the 1954 Pakistan team and played in the first and third Tests of the four-match series passed away at Chester in England on June 26, 2020 after a protracted illness. He was 84.

A right-arm medium- pace bowler and a right-handed batsman, Khalid was the son of Indian Test great Wazir Ali and nephew of Test cricketer Nazir Ali.

A former student of St.Patrick’s School in Karachi, Khalid played in two Tests in England and in 16 first class matches on the tour, scoring 253 runs at 16.86 besides taking 9 wickets at 54.90.

In 18 first class games in all, he scored 271 runs before settling down in England. His first class career was over before he was 19.
