From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: Rejoicing in Sind, NWFP
KARACHI: The restoration of the former provinces of West Pakistan from July 1, 1970, brought great rejoicings especially in Sind and NWFP. People brought out torch processions and sang and danced in the beflagged and decorated streets.
Dawn’s Correspondent reporting from Sukkur said: A torchlight procession was taken out in Sukkur last night as part of Jashne Sind celebrations marking the revival of the province of Sind after the dissolution of One Unit. Dawn’s Correspondent reporting from Peshawar said: The whole frontier is busy today in merrymaking on the restoration of North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Since last, night Peshawar had started beflagging itself under the guidance and auspices of the National Awami Party and Khudai Khidmatgars and it wore a festive look by this afternoon.
Our Quetta Correspondent reports: Sheikh Mujibur Rehman told a big public meeting in Quetta that the dismemberment of One Unit would not cause disintegration of Pakistan. Pakistan, he said was achieved after great sacrifices and it had come to stay.
