Van catches fire at petrol pump
GUJRANWALA: A van caught fire at a petrol pump here on Monday.
No one was hurt while Rescue 1122 firefighters extinguished the fire.
Onlookers said the van driver was refilling a tank at the filling station on Hafizabad Road when flames erupted and engulfed the van and a refilling machine in no time. The people and staff ran for life.
Rescue 1122 firefighting teams extinguished the fire after a hectic operation. The petrol pump has closed for safety measures.
Another fire broke out in a plastic shop near Alam Chowk and reduced raw and ready to deliver material to ashes.
Rescue 1122 District Emergency Officer Rifat Zya said the fire erupted due to a short circuit on the third floor of the shop. Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire before it spread to the other buildings.
DROWN: Two persons drowned in a canal here in Hafizabad on Monday.
According to reports, Ahmed Raza, 21, and Zohaib, 22, both friends, went to the canal near Karianwala for a bath. They were swept in the strong current of the canal and drowned. People swimming nearby took out the bodies.
Their bodies were handed over to their families.
