EFT gets CM’s permission to preserve Sehwan Fort
KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has granted permission to the Endowment Fund Trust (EFT), working for the preservation of heritage in Sindh, to conduct a survey and undertake preservation of Sehwan Fort, according to a communication addressed to the provincial chief secretary.
The communication, issued from the CM House, has requested the CS that a committee, headed by the Hyderabad commissioner, with the Jamshoro deputy commissioner, a representative of the culture and tourism department and EFT secretary being the other members, be formed to oversee the works. The SGA&C department be directed to form the committee, it added.
The permission was granted on a letter dated July 1, 2020 written to the competent authority by EFT secretary Abdul Hamid Akhund.
The letter states that Sehwan Fort is in a precarious condition which needs to be safeguarded and preserved. It can be Sindh’s tourism window to the outside world. It offers that the EFT would volunteer to undertake the preservation works from its own funds. In case additional funds are required, which may not be much, the EFT can raise the money with the blessings of the Sindh government, it adds.
