Diana Beg to hold camp for women in Gilgit

LAHORE: Diana Beg, Pakistan women’s team medium pacer, says she will organise a training camp for women in her native town Gilgit, noting the area still lacks the facilities required for women’s training.

In a press statement, the 24-year-old Diana said six years ago she shifted to Islamabad just for cricket after failing to get any sports facilities in Gilgit to groom herself.

“However, due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation I got an opportunity to live in my hometown for [the last] three months where unfortunately nothing has changed as far as cricket for women is concerned,” the right-armer said according to the press statement.

“To save future cricketing talent among the women of the area, I have decided to hold a training camp with the help of other women athletes. For this, I will require full cooperation of the local administration,” the Pakistan cricketer remarked.
