Elton John’s commemorative coin

Singer Elton John is being honoured with his own commemorative coin.

Britain’s Royal Mint unveiled a new “Music Legends” commemorative coin featuring John, 73, in a tweet: “In these strange times, #music can be a great tonic. Celebrating 50 top 40 hits and over 300 million albums sold worldwide, our 2020 tribute to The Rocket Man is ready for launch,” the post reads.

The coin, designed by Bradley Morgan Johnson, shows John wearing his famous music-note glasses and straw boater hat. It is available in gold proof, silver proof and brilliant uncirculated editions.

Clare Maclennan, divisional director of commemorative coin and the Royal Mint experience, said: “This is the second coin in the Royal Mint’s new Music Legends series, marking the work of our exceptional British musicians.”

John said it is “a fabulous honour” to be recognised with the coin.

Back to the Future and Transformers crossover!

It’s been 35 years since Back to the Future premiered in theatres — and to commemorate this milestone, Hasbro is partnering with Amblin Entertainment to create a multi-platform event that will forever change the way we look at the franchise, as well as certain alien robots with a penchant for proving time and again that they are more than meet the eye.

Meet Gigawatt, a new Autobot inspired by Doc Brown’s iconic Delorean time machine, and is the centre piece of the Back to the Future and Transformers collaborative team-up. But there’s also the upcoming Transformers/Back to the Future comic from IDW, a four-part event that promises to be a totally awesome happening.

Story details are scant at this point. We’ll have more on this as it develops.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie

The Nickelodeon-owned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise is set for yet another — to briefly borrow its parlance —totally tubular radical reboot in the form of a new theatrical animated feature film.

Jeff Rowe is set to direct this new outing and this new movie will manifest as a complete canonical reboot of the venerable, perpetually-lucrative franchise that launched in 1984 with creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s comic book title of the same name.

While no timeframe was divulged for the project, we’ll keep you updated on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ developing new theatrically-aimed reboot as the news arrives.
