KARACHI, Sept 17: Shahid Rabbani’s hat trick helped Capital Dynamos exact “sweet revenge” for their earlier surprise loss when they whipped Frontier Falcons 7-1 in the fifth place playoff in the Super Hockey League on Saturday.

The victory came after Dynamos surprisingly lost 5-2 to Falcons amid match-fixing rumours on Friday in a crucial match that deprived them of a possible place in the final, paving way for Sindh Qalandars to make it to the final on better goal average.

Dynamos, who, according to skipper Mudassir Ali Khan were off-colour with their forwards unwell, broke the ice in the 29th minute after a barren first quarter when Indian Gagan Ajit Singh slotted home to open the scoring at Hockey Club of Pakistan.

Two minutes later Abbas Haider of Falcons tried twice off a rebound but failed, while Mohammad Farooq missed from close a long ball in the dying moments of the second quarter.

Shahid came into action three minutes into third quarter when he gave Falcons defenders no chance with an angular effort from left. Falcons, who hardly met any resistance the other day against Dynamos, were rattled when they conceded two goals within space of two minutes, Mudassir grabbing the third in the 42nd minute.

Falcons caved in when Razzaq rifled home the fourth goal from a tight angle two minutes later before losers scored consolation goal through a fast push into the roof by Kashif seconds before the end of third quarter.

But a three-goal burst by Dynamos clipped Falcons’ wings by Shahid within seven minutes. While Shahid was the scorer, it was Gagan behind the two of the three goals that knocked the life out of Falcons.

Gagan cleverly squared a perfect pass to onrushing Shahid who made no mistake in slamming home his second in the 55th minute. Barely five minutes later, Shahid netted his third, this time off a deflection from a long ball from Mohammad Sami.

Dynamos hammered the last nail into Falcons coffin, Shahid completing his treble in the 62nd minute, again after being fed an inch-perfect pass by Gagan.

Meanwhile, PHF rescheduled Sunday’s final between Northern Cavaliers and Sindh Qalandars from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
