Dek eroding land in 25 villages

SIALKOT: The faster flow of floodwater in Nullah Dek has started eroding land in 25 villages of Pasrur tehsil located along its banks.

According to residents of the affected villages, the speed of erosion was very fast near Dugari Hundalaan village, adding that land in as many as 25 villages of Pasrur tehsil’s union councils Takhatpur, Kalaasswala, Talwandi Inayat Khan and Musapur was being fast eroded by Nullah Dek waters.

The residents of some of the affected villages staged a peaceful demonstration, demanding the Pasrur tehsil administration should take immediate steps to strengthen the protective dyke along the banks of this Nullah Dek to check land erosion.

They said the erosion had already eaten away dozens of acres near Dugari Hundalaan village, besides weakening the protective dyke meant to save hundreds of Pasrur tehsil villages from floodwater.

They also urged Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Gujranwala Commissioner Gulzar Hussain Shah and Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Dr Nasir Mehmood Bashir to ensure early steps to check the land erosion and save the fertile land in the 25 affected villages.
