ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan said the capital police have added a golden chapter to their history by sacrificing their lives in the line of duty.

He was addressing a ceremony held at the Police Lines Headquarters in connection with Police Martyrs Day, said a press release issued by the police.

The IGP also visited the martyrs’ monument and laid a wreath and offered Fateha for the martyrs.The ceremony was attended by officials of the police, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Mohammad Ahmed and other office-bearers.

The IGP said the courageous role played by the police in the capital has won the hearts of citizens as the brave custodians of law prevented many disasters by timely nabbing the mischievous elements.

Events held to mark Police Martyrs Day

He said 49 policemen embraced martyrdom in the line of duty but did not bow to the anti-social elements. He said police was basically a risky job and the officers have to handle brutal and mindless violence.

“Everyone is proud that Islamabad police have always kept dictum of duty before self and the entire nation and the police department is proud of its brave and gallant Shaheeds.”He thanked the prime minister for approving a special package for martyrs of Islamabad police and said every possible effort would be made to provide relief to the families of the martyrs.

He said children or family members of martyred personnel were being employed in the police while a special desk had been established at Police Lines Headquarters to facilitate the families. The ICCI president said conducive environment for business activities was ensured by the police.

Later, the IGP distributed cash and gifts among the families of the martyred personnel.

Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi police on Tuesday observed the “Martyrs Day” to pay homage to their comrades who laid their lives in the line of duty.

The police organized a function at police lines headquarters to pay tributes to the martyrs. A smartly dressed police contingent presented a salute to the martyrs. Police officers and martyrs families laid floral wreath at the monument of martyrs.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Habib Tajik, City Police Officer Mohammad Ahsan Younis, other senior police officers and families of martyred police personnel participated in the simple but graceful ceremony.

RPO Sohail Habib Tajik said in his address that police martyrs were their pride as their sacrifices could not be forgotten as they had sacrificed their lives for the people to lead a secure and normal life.

City police Officer Mohammad Ahsan Younis said he salutes to martyrs and their families.

“Martyred police personnel are not only the hero of the police department but of the nation as well.”

The participants of the ceremony expressed their interest in the martyred gallery where 108 photographs of martyred police personnel were displayed.

Deputy Inspector General of National Highway & Motorway police Mohammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan said in his message on police martyrs day that it is a great day to honour the brave sons of soil from police force who laid their lives in the line of duty.

The DIG said: “We salute our heroes and pay tribute to their sacrifices.”

He prayed to Allah to accept their sacrifices and usher a new era of peace and prosperity in the country.

The day is marked every year on August 4, which is the death anniversary of IGP of FC who was martyred in a suicide attack in 2010.

Attock

Different events were held in Attock on Tuesday to mark Police Martyrs Day.

Policemen paid tributes to their comrades who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The first event was held at district Police lines where a floral wreath was laid at Yadgar-i-Shahuda by SP investigation Dr Ammara Sherazi.

On the occasion, they offered Fateha for the departed souls of martyred police officials.

A dispensary was also inaugurated at district police lines to provide better health facilities to police officials and their family members.

The dispensary was named after DSP Shoukat Shah Shaheed, who laid his life in suicide blast at the house of the then provincial interior minister Shuja Khanzada at Hazro on Aug 16, 2016.

The dispensary was inaugurated by Syeda Alizye Fatima, daughter of a martyred officer.

Sub divisional officers of various towns of the district also visited the graves of the martyred police officers and paid tributes to them for rendering sacrifices for the country.

Police officers also visited the houses of martyred policemen and distributed Eid gifts among their family members.
