Newlywed couple found bludgeoned to death in Karachi
KARACHI: A newlywed couple was found bludgeoned to death in Awami Colony in Korangi on Wednesday, said police.
They suspected the involvement of a former fiancé of the woman in the double murder.
Area SHO Humayun Ahmed Khan said that bodies of Meer Hasan, 35, and his wife, Shabana, 27, were found in a home in Gulshan-i-Latif. The couple had died around five to six days ago, he added. Both had been killed with heavy stones which were hit on their heads.
The bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to fulfil medico-legal formalities.
The officer said that the woman had been engaged to someone in her native town in Sujawal district since her childhood. But she didn’t like him and she got married to Meer with her free consent around one and half months ago.
The officer said after killing the couple, the woman’s ex-fiancé informed her father that they had killed the couple and to collect their bodies.
The police along with the victim’s father recovered the bodies. The father told the police that he was sure that his daughter’s former fiancé was involved in the incident, though police were waiting for him to formally lodge an FIR.
Teenager shot dead in Shadman Town
A 17-year-old boy was shot dead in Shadman Town on Thursday evening.
Police said Raza Hussain was gunned down by a lone motorcyclist in Sector 14/B, Shadman No 2. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
A police spokesperson in a statement said he had been killed over putting up resistance to a robbery bid. However, Shahrah-i-Noorjehan SHO Imdad Ali Khowaja believed that the motive wasn’t clear as nothing had been taken away from him.
Suspect killed in encounter
A suspected drug peddler was shot dead in an encounter in New Karachi Industrial Area on Wednesday evening, said police.
They added that a police encounter took place between area police and drug sellers at Khamisa Goth in New Karachi.
After exchange of gunfire, one unidentified suspect was shot and killed. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Three hurt in cracker attack
Three people were injured in what police described as a cracker attack in Korangi on Wednesday evening.
Unidentified miscreants riding a motorbike hurled a cracker at an estate agency at Nasir Jump, Korangi No 1 and fled.
As a result, three persons namely Mubarak Rafiq, 35, Azhar Iqbal, 47, and Ilyas Younis, 57, were injured.
They said the injured were taken to the JPMC.
Dr Seemin Jamali said one person suffered wounds in his eye while another person received injuries in his chest. They all were stable.
The police in their initial probe ruled out possibility of any terror attack behind the incident. The police believed that the incident was an outcome of some personal enmity.
