Journalist Panel wins NPC election
ISLAMABAD: Journalist Panel won almost all the slots in the National Press Club (NPC) election held on Monday.
Shakeel Anjum was elected president by bagging 1,001 votes against outing president Shakeel Ahmed Qarar (Azad Group) who scored 685 votes.
There were five other candidates for the slot.
Anwar Raza of the Journalist Panel retained his seat of secretary with 1,108 votes and his closest rival Zaghum Naqvi managed to get 644 votes.
Similarly, for the three seats of vice president (male) Anwar Waheed Chaudhry (994 votes), Khalil Ahmed Raja (824 votes) and Shah Mohammad (711 votes) of the Journalist Panel were declared the winners.
The vice president (women seat) was retained by Dr Sadia Kamal of Azad Panel with 959 votes against Journalist Panel’s Shazia Nayyer (813 votes).
Ehtishamul Haq (953 votes), Noshad Abbasi (942 votes) and Mohammad Nadeem Chaudhry (892 votes) from the Journalist Panel were declared elected on the three seats of joint secretary reserved for men. Shakila Jalil from the Journalist Panel retained her seat of joint secretary (women) by securing 817 votes.
Sagheer Ahmed Chaudhry also retained the seat of finance secretary (836 votes) while Khawar Nawaz Raja managed to score 691 votes.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) extended congratulations to the Journalist Panel on winning the polls.
