NAB KP summons Fazl’s brother over ‘illegal assets’

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has issued a call-up notice to an officer of the provincial government, who is a younger brother of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, directing him to appear before an investigation team on August 25 in an ongoing inquiry launched on multiple charges, including possessing illegal assets.

The call-up notice was issued by deputy director Nasiruddin Abbass on August 20 under section 19 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.

The subject of the notice states that the inquiry is against officers/officials of the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and others regarding corruption and corrupt practices concerning funds under various heads, procurement of machinery/equipment, etc. illegal appointment and promotion of accused Ziaur Rehman and accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.

It states that the subject inquiry revealed that he (Ziaur Rehman) was in possession of information/evidence which related to the commission of the said offence.

The notice called upon Ziaur Rehman to appear before the combined investigation team on August 25 at NAB’s regional office here.

Mr Zia became centre of a controversy last month when he was appointed as deputy commissioner of a district in Karachi on deputation by the Sindh government.

He is a grade-19 officer of the KP Provincial Management Service.
