Probe ordered into Haripur hospital deaths

HARIPUR: The health authorities have ordered probes into the death of a woman and a man in two hospitals of Haripur district.

Nasreen Bibi of Kulali village died on Tuesday soon after delivering a baby in the District Headquarters Hospital.

The family claimed that the baby was born normally but as the doctors mishandled delivery, the woman died shortly thereafter.

Medical officer Dr Saadia Dilawar, who attended to the woman, denied committing negligence and claimed that post-delivery excessive bleeding caused the woman’s death.

Medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Waheedur Rehman ordered an inquiry into the death.

Meanwhile, Haji Azam, a 55-year-old resident of Pind Gujran village, died at the Khanpur Type D Hospital on Tuesday with the family accusing the doctors of not attending to the cardiac patient for two hours.

The deceased’s relatives along with residents staged a protest and attempted to close the hospital by force, but the police dispersed them.

The protesters demanded registration of a case of criminal negligence against the relevant doctors.

Khanpur Hospital medical superintendent Dr Dildar Hussain told reporters that the patient was brought to the hospital after cardiac arrest and the doctors provided him with ‘first aid’ and conducted his ECG test but he died during emergency treatment.

He denied delayed treatment.

District health officer Dr Saifullah Khalid has ordered a probe into the alleged negligence of doctors.
