Chitral self-help

THE people of upper and lower Chitral have taken the initiative to repair and rebuild the Booni-Mastuj road out of their own resources and efforts.

The project was started recently in upper Chitral under the supervision of a retired professor, who has also served in the Higher Education Commission and other educational institutes of Peshawar.

This thoroughfare has been in a deplorable condition for years and the people of both districts of Chitral finally decided to take things in their own hand and repair it. This project is the brainchild of Prof (Dr) Ismail Wali. The road is approximately 23km-long road and is the only route that connects upper Chitral with lower Chitral.

On the first day of repairs, about 1,000 volunteers from the three villages of Mastuj, Chunij and Laspur in upper Chitral worked on the site and work is in progress.

This is a great initiative and should be applauded. Kudos to Dr Ismail Wali.
