Sarwar assures PUC of action against hate mongers
LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar on Saturday assured Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Maulana Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Khateeb of Badshahi Mosque Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and 22 other religious scholars of the government’s support in taking action against those, who disrupt religious harmony in the country.
He gave the assurance during a meeting with a delegation comprising 24 religious scholars from different sects here on Saturday.
“All of us have to fight those elements who ignite flames of sectarianism in Pakistan,” he said.
The governor paid a tribute to the armed forces for rooting out terrorism and maintaining law and order in Pakistan.
He said the religious scholars from all schools of thought were playing an exemplary role in promoting the interfaith harmony in Pakistan. He lauded the display of religious harmony during Muharram.
The governor said the government was taking action against the miscreants without any discrimination and added that no one would be allowed to disrupt law and order in the country.
Maulana Ashrafi said religious scholars from all schools of thought were promoting religious harmony in Muharram. “Regardless of any sect, we will stand against those who commit the sin of blasphemy,” he said.
The religious scholars assured the governor of their full support for the government for promotion of interfaith harmony in the country.
They called for a strict action against those who fanned sectarianism and religious intolerance.
