Coalition For Women In Journalism demands justice for murdered female journalist Shaheena Shaheen

The Coalition For Women In Journalism has called on the authorities in Balochistan as well as the federal government to find and punish those behind the murder of female journalist Shaheena Shaheen.

Shaheen, aged around 25 years, was a local anchorperson at state-owned broadcaster PTV and was also an editor of a local magazine. She was also a student of fine arts at the University Of Balochistan.

Police said unidentified suspects opened fire on Shaheen at her residence in TTC Colony of Turbat. The killers escaped unhurt from the scene.

She was shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Turbat where she succumbed to her injuries. She received three bullet wounds, police official Allah Bakhsh told DawnNewsTV.

In its statement condemning the murder, the CFWIJ says that Shaheena’s culprit must not be spared at any cost.

"She actively campaigned for gender equality and women empowerment through her work," the statement said.

CFWIJ founding director Kiran Nazish said “the state of Pakistan has a duty to its female populace and absolutely needs to look into this matter immediately".

The coalition further demands that authorities in Balochistan find Shaheena’s murderer and serve justice in the case.
