Teachers’ recommendations about reopening of schools
KARACHI: At a time when authorities are set to take critical decisions regarding reopening of educational institutions that were shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Pak Alliance for Maths and Science and Zindagi Trust have prepared a report detailing the recommendations of government school teachers about the key issues involved.
The report — titled “Pakistani Teachers’ Response to Covid-19” — is based on the opinions of 250 government school teachers from all the provinces.
Some of the key recommendations highlighted in the report are:
The health of students, their parents and teachers needs to be the foremost priority; schools need to be equipped with adequate number of classrooms (or ample outdoor space), running water, soap, etc; and, clear guidelines should be made available in case teachers, students or families of either test positive for Covid-19.
Needs for the short term and medium term should be devised to address losses; content-specific learning packs should be devised, which can be provided to students to support learning at home; and, content to be shared with students remotely, should be developed by competent teachers.
