HYDERABAD, Sept 22: Sixteen government-backed candidates, including 11 of the Azad Magsi Ittehad and the Jamote Ittehad, have been elected unopposed on various reserved seats of women, labour and minority, according to unofficial results in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar and Matiari districts on Wednesday.

Mohammad Ali Jamote of the Jamote Ittehad returned unopposed as the district nazim Matiari after two contestants Bachal Shah Lakyari and Farman Ali Shah withdrew from the contest.

For labour seat of the district council, Ghulam Rasool Memon withdrew from the contest while eight candidates are in the field whereas 12 and four candidates would contest for seats of women and minority.

In newly-created Tando Allahyar district, eleven candidates of government-backed Azad Magsi Ittehad returned unopposed unofficially in district and taluka councils.

According to the break-up of Tando Allahyar district, Dr Rahila Magsi of the AMI and ADP’s Abdul Sattar Bachani, Tasleem Pasha and Imdad Pitafi are contesting for district nazim seat.

Kanhya Lal and Kishore Kumar withdrew on labour seat of the district council and contest is between the two candidates.

Ten women and four minority candidates are contesting for reserved seats.

In Jhando Khan Mari taluka, two women candidates Zainab and Noor Bibi were elected unopposed on two reserved seats of women. Sher Mohammad Mirjat and Ramo were elected unopposed on labour and minority seats respectively of taluka council Jhando Mari.

A woman, Marvi, was elected in the district council of Tando Allahyar out of share of Jhando Mari taluka.

There will be a contest for the seat of taluka nazim between AMI’s Mir Mohammad Ghulam Talpur and PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel Abdul Latif Mangrio.

In Chambar taluka, elections will be held on the seat of taluka nazim between AMI’s Abdul Fayyaz Sheikh and ADP’s Ghulam Mohammad Kumbhar as reserved candidates in the taluka council had been elected unopposed.

Allah Bachai and Janat Allah Dino Otho and Dewan Kanhya Lal were elected on women, labour ad minority seats respectively.

Wahida and Naseem Akhtar were elected in the district council Tando Allahyar out of share of seats of Chambar taluka.

Four women candidates Zahida Memon, Fahmida Nahiyoo, Jamila Khatoon and Rozina were elected unopposed on four reserved seats of the district council for Hyderabad (rural) taluka.

There are 18 reserved seats of women in the district council for which 29 women were in the field. One candidate, Fareeda Khanum withdrew.

Kanwar Naveed of the MQM-backed Haq Parast Group, Mir Fateh Talpur of PPP-backed ADP and independent candidate, Qadeer Gadhi were in the field for district nazim seat of Hyderabad as two candidates.

Prem, Zafar Lal and Kanhya Lal withdrew out of nine candidates for three seats of minority in the district council.

Likewise, Ajab Gul and Sabir Hussain withdrew from the contest on three labour seats in the district council for which four candidates are contesting now.

For the city taluka, MQM-backed Salahuddin and Rashid Khilji withdrew from the contest while Javed Jabbar of Haq Parast Group and ADP’s Fayyaz Ali Shah remained in the field.

Fourteen women were contesting for seven seats of taluka city council.

In Latifabad, there is one to one contest between Sabir Kaimkhani of the HPG and Ghulam Mustafa Kalhoro of the ADP for taluka nazim slot after Khalid Hussain withdrew.

Ten women are contesting for six reserved seats as only one Nayyar Sultana withdrew.

For one each seat of minority and labour four each candidate is contesting for the taluka council.

In Hyderabad (rural) taluka, four candidates, Israr Ahmed, Khalid Pahore, Ghulam Mujtaba Unnar and Roshan Shah withdrew from the taluka nazim seat contest. Mir Sher Mohammad Talpur, Khawind Bux Jahejo of the ADP, Mohammad Thebo of the Rajuni Ittehad and Mir Shah Mohammad Talpur are contesting.

In Qasimabad taluka, ADP’s Maula Bux Chandio is contesting against the government-backed candidate, Noor Mohammad Shoro, and Mohammad Bux for the taluka nazim seat. Three, six and four candidates, respectively, are contesting for one each seat of woman, labour and minority of taluka council.
