KOHAT: The police foiled an attempt to smuggle Rs500,000 fake currency notes to Balochistan by arresting two persons here on Wednesday .

SHO Jarma police station stopped a car during checking at the Muslimabad checkpost on the Indus Highway, and recovered Rs500,000 fake currency notes and an M-16 rifle from it, according to a statement issued here.

The accused - Haq Nawaz and Roohullah - were arrested and a case was registered against them.

Meanwhile, the people on Wednesday complained about illegal slaughtering of sick animals at unhygienic places other than the official abattoirs.

Talking to a livestock department doctor, they said the butchers put excessive water on the meat to increase its weight. They apprehended that the consumption of unhygienic meat could spread diseases.

Later, the official called the president of the butchers association to his office and told him to ensure slaughtering of healthy animals at the official slaughterhouse.

SHOT DEAD: Owner of a grocery store was killed in Sector-II of the posh KDA Township the other day.

The CCTV footage in the shop showed that a man with only his lower body visible entering the shop and firing seven shots on Qaiser Imran, 22. Later, he fled along with an accomplice on a motorcycle.

The body was shifted to the KDA Teaching Hospital. Zamin Ali, father of the deceased, field an FIR against unknown killers in the KDA police station.

TREE PLANTATION: Assistant commissioner, Lachi tehsil, Mohammad Ali and the lady forest officers launched a tree plantation campaign by planting saplings in the degree college the other day.

The assistant commissioner said ruthless cutting of trees had made forests nude and increased diseases and pollution which could only be controlled by planting trees.

MEDICAL STORES OWNERS BOOKED: The Drug Control Authority officials booked owners of two medical stores in Gumbat for selling narco drugs without licence, changing prices and hoarding.

Meanwhile, a team of the Water Supply and Sanitation Company snapped 200 illegal water connections during operations in Shino Khel and Jhandi areas of the city.

An official told Dawn that more than 25 consumers registered themselves and promised to pay the bills regularly.
