Doctor shot at, hurt by robbers

KARACHI: A 55-year-old doctor was shot at and wounded by alleged robbers near Hasan Square in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday afternoon, said police.

They added that Dr Surrender Singh was wounded by robbers over putting up resistance to the robbery bid at Noman Arcade.

New Town SHO Manzoor Husain Arain said that the doctor had gone there to meet his sister.

As he came out from his car, armed motorcyclists tried to snatch his mobile phone. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled along with the snatched cell phone.

The doctor suffered a bullet wound in his right knee and was taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Dr Surrender works at the Social Security hospital in Landhi area.

Teenager shot dead

A 19-year-old man was shot dead in a Machhar Colony area on Sunday night, said police.

They added that Raheem Alam was gunned down by unidentified suspects at Saddam Chowk.

Docks SHO Azam Rajpar said the victim had remained associated with the Lyari gang warfare.

He had been arrested and recently released from the jail, the police officer added.
