Girl killed for honour in Darra, three relatives held

KOHAT: A girl was killed by relatives over her wish to marry on her own choice in Jawaki Banda area of Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision on Tuesday.

SP operations Tahir Iqbal told reporters that the father, uncle and a cousin of the victim strangled her after finding her talking to her friend on mobile phone.

He quoted the victim’s father, who along with the two other accused has been arrested, as saying that his daughter was choked to death by his brother and a nephew. The case occurred in Away Kalay village.

Mr Iqbal said the accused had been booked under sections 302 and 322 of PPC.

He stated that a court sent them on judicial remand as they admitted to the crime during police interrogation.

LAID TO REST: Soldier Arshad Orakzai, who embraced martyrdom during fight with militants in North Waziristan tribal district, was laid to rest in Doba town of Hangu district with full military honour on Tuesday.

Army officials, elders and ulema attended his funeral prayers.

SCHOOLS SEALED: Two schools were sealed after five students and staff members tested positive for Covid- 19 in Kharmato on Tuesday.

Additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed ordered sealing of government girls high school and government boys school.

Meanwhile, a boy was electrocuted while trying to retrieve a kite stuck in an electricity pole in Mohallah Qureshabad on Tuesday. The victim was named Adnan, 15.

Also, an unidentified man drowned in Naryab Dam in Doaba, Hangu district on Tuesday.

His body was recovered by divers. As he could not be identified his body was placed at the hospital for identification.

Meanwhile, Best Pak, a welfare body, distributed over 400 ration packages among the IDP families at Jarma Bridge Square the other day.

The food items included pulses, wheat, flour, salt, oil etc. Additional assistant commissioner-III Mohammad Iqbal supervised the distribution process.

OFFICIAL TRANSFERRED: The establishment division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday appointed Talha Zubair as the assistant commissioner, Kohat, and transferred the incumbent, Furqan Ashraf to Nowshera in his own pay and scale, according to a notification.
