Swabi bypass road project may face delay

SWABI: Completion of the Swabi bypass project is likely to face delay as construction activities have been affected by Covid-19 outbreak, according to sources.

Work on this project was started in February this year when National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser inaugurated the scheme.

The sources quoted an official as saying that as the workers were forced to self-quarantine, it was not possible for the contractor to continue the construction activities during peak days of coronavirus.

Sources in the works department said that total cost of the project was Rs680 million and according to schedule it was to be completed by June next year, but now it seemed difficult.

However, source in Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf said that their parliamentarians had warned the contractors and officials of the communication and works department to complete the bypass project according to schedule by coming June, telling them that no delay or excuse would be accepted in this regard.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has provided funds for the project, which is mainly located in the constituency of Mr Qaiser.

When contacted, MPA Rangaiz Khan said they wanted completion of Swabi bypass according to the schedule.

BAIL REJECTED: Additional sessions judge, Chota Lahor, rejected the bail application of an accused in honour killing case here on Wednesday.

The alleged killer, Yousaf Khan, was arrested soon after registration of an FIR in Yar Hussain police station by wife of one Saleem Khan, alleging that her son Uzair Ali and his wife, who was daughter of Mr Yousaf, were killed by him.
