Man kills wife in Haripur district courts

HARIPUR: A man killed his wife on the premises of the district courts here on Friday. The police arrested gunman Sajid Mehmood as he tried to flee.

The 28-year-old woman, Sadaf Bashir, was an under-trial prisoner and was brought to the court to attend a hearing.

She had earlier moved the court of the senior civil judge for security over acid attack and death threats from her husband and his family.

The police said they had registered a criminal case against Sadaf over the alleged abduction of her niece, Laiba Bibi, 14, as the two went missing in July. However, her husband and family members suspected that the woman had eloped.

She was later arrested and was detained in the Haripur Central Jail on judicial remand.

On Friday, the police produced the woman in the court of senior civil judge (admin) Jasmshed Kundi for hearing into her bail application.

Sajid Mehmood fired two bullets at her as she walked towards the jail van in the parking area of district courts along with a woman constable.

The woman was shifted to the Haripur Trauma Centre from where she was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.

However, she died on the way to Abbottabad.
