Khyber Medical College closes campus, hostels over Covid cases

PESHAWAR/MANSEHRA: The Khyber Medical College and its four hostels have been closed for two weeks after detection of Covid-19 among six female students.

The students have been directed to visit the college’s website for daily updates from time to time to stay abreast with the desired information, according to a press release issued here on Monday.

On Saturday, the KMC administration had closed down the only girls hostel for medical students after detection of six positive cases, and had started screening of the remaining students at the three male hostels, testing about 500 students for the virus. The test results are yet to arrive, but the administration decided to also close the three male hostels as well the KMC for two weeks.

The KMC’s affiliated Khyber Teaching Hospital will, however, remain open.

Meanwhile, the Mansehra district administration has imposed smart lockdown in 15 places after emergence of coronavirus cases.

A notification issued by the deputy commissioner said the smart lockdown was put in place at three different places in Balakot tehsil, six places in Oghi tehsil and six places in Garhi Habibullah, Shinkiari, Baffa and Daman Sharif.

The order said the magistrate-in-charge and additional assistant commissioners would ensure the enforcement of the lockdown in letter and spirit in the areas notified by the administration.
