Kaira optimistic about first PDM show on 16th
LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party is upbeat about the success of anti-government Gujranwala public meeting of the opposition alliance – Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) scheduled for Oct 16.
PPP Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira said the Gujranwala meeting would be a trend-setting event against the “puppet” government.
He was speaking at a meeting of party officials held to review arrangements for the public meeting to be addressed by PDM central leadership, including Maryam Nawaz.
It was attended by Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, Chaudhry Aslam Gill, Malik Usman and others.
Mr Kaira said the statements of some ministers would neither weaken the PDM, nor split the alliance.
He said the first PDM public meeting would prove to be a starting point for liberation from the “puppet government”.
He asked the PPP’s district organisations to make full efforts for the success of the PDM public meeting.
Kaira alleged that Imran Khan’s government had become a threat to the federation and democracy.
Referring to registration of sedition cases against the opposition leaders, he said the PPP had always faced such cases and this was not a new tradition in the national politics.
He said the PPP had always resisted the interference of ‘outsiders’ in politics and preferred to stand with the Constitution and democracy.
